Born and raised in Italy, Antonio Pompa-Baldi won the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 1999. A top prize winner at the 1998 Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition of Paris, he also won a silver medal at the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Mr. Pompa-Baldi appears regularly at the world's major concert venues including New York's Carnegie Hall, Cleveland's Severance Hall, Boston's Symphony Hall and Paris' Salle Pleyel.
He has collaborated with leading conductors including Hans Graf, James Conlon, Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Keith Lockhart, performing with the Houston Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Berliner Symphoniker, Orchestre National de Paris-Radio France, National Orchestra of Ukraine and Fort Worth Symphony. Notable recital engagements include Beijing, Seoul , Paris, London, Chicago and Houston.
Among upcoming orchestral engagements, Mr. Pompa-Baldi will perform with the Johannesburg and Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestras in South Africa, as well as the National Symphony of Ecuador, in Quito. Recital engagements include Cleveland, Jerusalem, Israel, Poland and Italy.
He has recorded 15 CDs for Centaur Records, featuring music of Josef Rheinberger, Grieg, Rachmaninoff, Schumann and Hummel. His latest CD, for the Steinway label, is entitled “The Rascal and the Sparrow-Poulenc meets Piaf”, and is dedicated to the songs of Francis Poulenc and Edith Piaf.
