Facility

Main building - Opened in 1961, the main building houses teaching studios, practice rooms, Kulas Hall, Robinson Music Library, technology learning center, eurhythmics studio, orchestra library, opera theater workshop and studio, and the CIM Music Store.

Kulas Hall - A concert space seating more than 500, the hall features a Holtkamp 3-manual tracker organ and a stage that can accommodate the CIM orchestra or a fully staged opera.

Robinson Music Library - This expanded facility features a high-tech media center, and includes a collection of more than 53,000 scores and books, and 28,000 audio-visual materials. It also is linked to the Case Western Reserve University library system.

Technology Learning Center - Located in the lower level of the main building, the lab has 10 workstations. Each is equipped with Windows 7 operating system, MS Office, internet access, DVD+/-RW drives, midi keyboards, stereo headphones and other software programs to assist students and faculty with music composition, orchestration and more.

CIM Music Store - Located on the lower level of the main building, the store offers a wide selection of textbooks, music and music accessories, as well as CIM t-shirts and other logo items.

Fred A. Lennon Building - A new facility added to CIM's main building, featuring practice rooms, teaching studios, extensive facilities for audio recording and distance learning, a student lounge, outdoor terrace and administrative offices.

Mixon Hall - A 250-seat, state-of-the-art recital hall that includes the Robert & Jean Conrad Control Room for high-tech broadcasting and a beautiful view of the Gilliam Music Garden.

Audio recording studios - State-of-the-art digital recording and CD production; one of the studios is a one-of-a-kind THX-certified facility.

Hazel Annex - Adjacent to CIM's main building, the Annex provides additional studios and practice rooms.

Cutter House residence hall -Also adjacent to the main building, Cutter House accommodates 100 CIM students.

Through a cooperative arrangement with Case Western Reserve University (case.edu), CIM students have access to university facilities and courses, including the ability to pursue minor or dual-degree study.

Exchange Programs

CIM maintains exchange programs with the Conservatoire de Paris, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Danish Academy of Music, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Université de Montréal.

Distance Learning

Distance Learning programs at CIM connect in real time to teachers and students throughout the world through high-speed videoconferencing technology. Students participate in performances and master classes in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Royal College of Music in London, Manhattan School of Music, and many other quality venues. CIM is an affiliate member of the Internet2 high-speed network, and offers many exciting Distance Learning programs for Pre-K through high school classrooms and for retirement communities across North America. More than 500 programs reach 11,000 students annually. CIM students participate as video and audio technicians, performers, presenters, and guest artists.

Students

CIM's college division enrolls more than 450 students and is broadly representative in its composition: 55% from 49 states, 25% from 24 countries, 15% from Ohio, and 60% are undergraduates.

Alumni

Graduates represent all 50 states and 46 foreign countries. More than 40 alumni are members of The Cleveland Orchestra. In addition, CIM alumni perform with many of the world's most acclaimed organizations, including orchestras and opera companies, and hold prominent teaching positions worldwide.

More than 1,100 people apply for 150 new-student openings, of which 60-70 are for freshmen.

Approximately 96% of students receive scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans.

Housing: First- and second-year undergraduate students live on campus in CIM's residence hall. Other students live off campus in neighborhoods close to the school.

Concerts

The CIM concert season includes than 100 programs each year. These feature the CIM orchestras, including five appearances in Severance Hall during 2012-2013, New Music Ensemble, chamber music, faculty and visiting artist recitals, Pianofest and family concerts. Additionally, more than 300 student recitals are presented each year.

Operas

There are three opera productions annually, including at least two fully staged and costumed productions with orchestra. These offer multiple opportunities for students to develop and cultivate vocal skills, acting abilities, and stage presence. Each production is open to all voice students.

Master Classes

Students work with distinguished faculty and guest artists throughout the year. In recent years, master classes have been hosted by world-class artists including Leon Fleischer, Richard Goode, Steven Isserlis, Warren Jones, Ton Koopman, Robert Mann, John O'Conor, HaeSun Paik, Sergiu Schwartz, and Donald Weilerstein, among others.

Mobile Applications

In 2011, CIM became the first music school to launch mobile apps simultaneously for the iPhone and Android mobile platforms as well as a mobile website for Blackberry, Palm and Symbian Smartphone users. This was accomplished through a partnership with InstantEncore.com.

Around Town

CIM is located in Cleveland's University Circle, a unique cultural, educational, and scientific center five miles east of downtown Cleveland. Contained within its park-like 500 acres are over thirty institutions that, together, constitute one of the largest diversified cultural complexes in the world.
