Listening Guide
Music is frequently a means to convey great joy or sorrow. As its own unique language, it can be the only way to express the emotions which are often thrust upon us.
As ambassadors of music, we would like to offer a guide to help find happiness and solace in the power of music. This Listening Guide has been created to share the music many of us turn to in times of trouble, and for inspiration. In those times, we seek something bigger, something to which everyone can relate in their own way. We turn to music to express what words often cannot.
Many of these great pieces you may already own, but perhaps you've not listened to them in a while. Some may be new to you and provide an opportunity to add to your collection.
In the words of the great cellist Pablo Casals, "Perhaps it is music that will save the world."
Click on the links below to view the pieces most highly recommended by CIM faculty and students. Or, if you prefer to print the entire Listening Guide, you can download a PDF here.
