If you are an international applicant for whom English is a second language, you must complete the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination (No other form of testing or evaluation is acceptable). Plan early to take the TOEFL test during the fall months so that your test score arrives at CIM in good time. You cannot be admitted without meeting this requirement! Test results must come directly from the testing center to CIM.

Applicants for the Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree programs must attain the following minimum score requirement: 79 (iBT), 213 (computer test), 550 (paper test). The minimum requirement for non-degree programs (Artist Certificate, Professional Studies Artist Diploma,) is 61 (iBT), 173 (computer test), 500 (paper test).

The CIM school code for the TOEFL is 1124 (When registering for the test or when ordering a score report, no departmental code is necessary.) You may call TOEFL at (609) 771-7100 to order a score report for CIM.

All students must document to the satisfaction of the Director of Financial Aid their ability to pay the costs of attending CIM for one year, including tuition, room, board, medical insurance, student fees, and personal expenses. Funding may be combined from several sources, but the total must cover the above listed expenses.

If a student is awarded scholarship assistance, this money will be in addition to any demonstrated funds. Every applicant who does not have the full financial means at his/her disposal to cover all costs related to attending CIM should research early in the application process all possibilities of support. All international students accepted to CIM will require a student visa (F-1) and will be sent an I-20 form only after full admission has been granted and a tuition deposit has been received.

Once you have secured an audition date at CIM, you may be required to obtain a B-2 visa to enter the United States from a U.S. Consular Post in your country. If you require a letter of invitation from CIM to take with you to the visa interview, please email admission@cim.edu.

Once an international student is admitted and has successfully documented his/her resources he or she will be contacted by the International Student Office with extensive instructions on how to obtain an F-1 student visa. Along with instructions, a SEVIS-generated I-20 document will be sent in the mail. This, in addition to other supporting documents, will be used to obtain the F-1 visa stamp at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consular Post. Canadian students are exempt from this last step. They will receive an I-20, but do not need to apply for the F-1 visa stamp.

For visa purposes, international students must provide a foreign address on the Application for Admission.
