Music Literature Departmemt
The Music Literature Department is an important thread in the fabric of the Bachelor of Music degree program at CIM. Designed to help students experience a focused study of specific genres and repertoire, Music Literature courses combine historical background, music analysis, and aesthetics. Classes provide a survey of music through lectures, discussions, listening, and reading, with frequent demonstration and occasional guest artists and lecturers. Assigned projects generally include written papers and/or spoken reports, in addition to quizzes and exams.
Music Literature are offered in Chamber, Symphonic, Opera, Vocal, Piano, Guitar, and Oratorio, with class sizes typically smaller than the average Music History class. A particular Music Literature course is required in most undergraduate majors, though several of the classes are open as electives for any student.
