Thank You! The Campaign for CIM, the largest undertaking in the Institute's history since the design and construction of its University Circle facility in the late 1950s, has provided much-needed additional performance, practice, and teaching space for this world-renowned conservatory. Thanks to the generosity of more than 1,000 individuals, foundations, corporations, and government entities, CIM has succeeded not only in reaching but in surpassing its $40 million goal! Since The Campaign for CIM was completed on September 30, 2007, CIM continues to secure funding for endowment and scholarships.
The expansion includes two wings: the Fred A. Lennon Education Building on the northeast corner of the existing structure; and the Recital Wing on the southwest corner. On October 13 and 14, 2006, CIM celebrated the completion of "Phase One" of its expansion project with the opening of the Lennon Education Building, which includes new practice rooms, administrative offices, the "Kulas Foundation Center for International Music Education" (i.e., CIM's new Distance Learning Center), and the new C.K. "Pat" and Nancy Patrick Recording Center. Fanfare For A New Era CIM celebrates the dedication of its campus expansion and the grand opening of Mixon Hall on November 11, 2007. From 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., the community is invited to visit the CIM campus in University Circle for the dedication of Mixon Hall and the celebration of the Institute's expanded facilities. (JPMorgan Chase is the generous sponsor of the dedication events.)
The dedication will be a sparkling weekend of concerts and events, as CIM thanks the 1,000+ donors who have made its expansion project possible. The community is invited to the CIM campus as the Institute opens the doors to the new Recital Wing and applauds the tremendous support it has received from its many friends. The official opening ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m., with an open house to follow. The open house includes musical performances, a presentation by architect Charles Young and acoustician Paul Scarbrough, and tours of both additions. A fanfare for brass and percussion, written by CIM electronic sound production faculty member Steven Mark Kohn, will be performed at the start of the festivities. For more information about the dedication festivities, please call the CIM Development Office or the Office of Concerts & Events at 216.791.5000. Following the Campaign announcement on September 1st, a generous anonymous supporter was inspired to pledge a $400,000 challenge grant, designated toward funding the replacement of the CIM roof. Any Campaign gifts or pledges up to a total of $400,000 which CIM receives between October 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007, unless otherwise designated, will be matched toward this $800,000 roof project. Contributors to the "Roof Challenge" will recognized along with all Campaign contributors – for example, (1) on the Donor Wall (recognizing contributors of $10,000 or more), (2) for numerous named spaces, and (3) on seats in Mixon Hall. A first installation of "pavers" has already been completed on the walkway to the new Fred A. Lennon Education Building, and a second installation will be added when the expansion project is completed; the pavers recognize contributors of $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000.
