III. Finding & Evaluating Information

Find Internet resources

Two basic tools are available to access the plethora of information on the Internet: Search engines and Directories.

Search Engines

Search engines provide the ability to search the Internet for resources. Examples of search engines include Google and Dogpile. Usually search engines have advanced searching techniques that help focus a search.

      Example: Google (advanced searching)

In Google's advanced search, one can limit the search by URL type, language, exact phrase, and more. For more precise search results it may be prudent to explore the advanced search options for your favorite search engine.

Directories

Directories list Internet resources by subject. There are a few notable directories related to music. For example, Yale University's Music Resources on the Web. Also see the Robinson Music Library's Web Resources page.

Yale University
CIM
Yale Classical Music Resources
