Borrowing Library Materials

Who are qualified borrowers?

The CIM Library is a private library. Library services and collections are restricted to qualified borrowers. These include:

  • Current CIM faculty members and staff
  • Currently enrolled students (conservatory or preparatory)
  • Faculty members and student majors from the music and dance departments at Case Western Reserve University
  • CIM alumni who have a current alumni card
  • Special Borrowers, including Cleveland Orchestra personnel, who have made prior arrangements with the library

What is the loan period for circulating materials?

Circulating materials may be checked out by qualified borrowers for a "semester." For CIM faculty members, staff, and students, a semester is the duration of the academic term (Fall or Winter). For preparatory faculty members, students and other special borrowers, the semester is the duration of the preparatory semester.

Special borrowers, including continuing education/preparatory students and alumni, have a maximum checkout limit of ten items.

In order to make materials available to all library patrons, all library materials are subject to recall after two weeks.

How much are fines?

  • Overdue items = $.10/day
  • Overdue recalled items = $1.00/day
  • Overdue reserve items = $1.00/hour
  • There is no grace period on any fine

May I borrow materials from CWRU's Libraries?

If you are a CIM conservatory student or faculty member, you have borrowing privileges at the Kulas Music Library and the Kelvin Smith Library.
