Frank Rosenwein

Head, Oboe Department, joined The Cleveland Orchestra as principal oboe at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. From 2002 to 2005, he served as principal oboe of the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera. He also has served as guest principal oboe with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Rosenwein has been a faculty member of San Diego State University and has given master classes at several institutions, including DePaul University and Kent State University. An integral part of Mr. Rosenwein's music making is his love of chamber music. He has spent two summers at Marlboro and has performed with the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego and the Seattle Chamber Music Society. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from CIM, where he studied with former Cleveland Orchestra principal oboe, John Mack, and a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School of Music, where he studied with Elaine Douvas, co-principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Mr. Rosenwein has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Elgin Symphony, the Skokie Valley Symphony and the CIM Orchestra. He has participated in various summer music festivals, including Tanglewood, Verbier (Switzerland), and the Spoleto Festival (South Carolina). In 1999, he participated in the Kent/Blossom Music program, and in 2000 he was a member of the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado. He was appointed to the CIM faculty in 2006.
