Jack L. Renner

Adjunct Professor, Audio Recording, received a Bachelor of Science degree and completed graduate studies at The Ohio State University. He is chairman, CEO and chief recording engineer of the Telarc International Corporation. Active as a recording engineering consultant, freelance recording engineer, educator and public speaker, he has received 22 GRAMMY Award nominations and won 11 GRAMMY Awards. He is an internationally recognized exponent and practitioner of simple microphone technique and a pioneer in using the digital recording process to record classical/symphonic music and jazz commercially. He had the first U.S. symphonic digital recording, Frederick Fennell/Cleveland Symphonic Winds, in April 1978; the first U.S. orchestral digital recording, Robert Shaw/Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Firebird and Polovetsian Dances, in June 1978; and the first digital recording anywhere of an internationally recognized world-class orchestra, Lorin Maazel/The Cleveland Orchestra, Pictures at an Exhibition, in October 1978. He is a former music educator and professional trumpeter. He was appointed to the CIM faculty in 1986 and awarded an Honorary Doctor of Musical Arts degree by CIM in 1997.
