An outstanding musician from Singapore, Andris Koh began studying the cello at the age of eight, and piano at the age of four. Ms. Koh holds a Diploma in Cello and Piano Performance from the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London, and a Bachelor of Music degree (with Academic Honors and a Minor in Dalcroze Eurhythmics) from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Upon graduating, she was awarded the Jim Hall Graduate Scholarship, and the Dr. Bennett Levine Memorial Award in Chamber Music. She is now pursuing her Master of Music degree in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy with Mark Kosower and Melissa Kraut at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has also studied piano with Elizabeth DeMio, and Suzuki Pedagogy. She has been recently appointed as a Suzuki Cello instructor at the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ms. Koh is a fellowship recipient of the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she studies with Darrett Adkins. In past summers, she has participated in the Sarasota Music Festival, National Orchestral Institute, the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, and the Pan Pacific International Music Festival in Australia. She has held Principal, Assistant Principal, section cello and substitute positions in various regional orchestras in Singapore and Ohio. She is currently a member of the Akron Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Ms. Koh was a member of the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Intensive Quartet Seminar, where she worked closely with Peter Salaff and the Cavani String Quartet. She has also participated in master classes with Desmond Hoebig, Ronald Leonard, Clive Greensmith, Alisa Weilerstein, Joel Smirnoff, Masao Kawasaki, Donald Weilerstein, Takacs Quartet, Daedalus Quartet, Colorado Quartet, Julliard String Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet. Ms. Koh was part of a quartet which won 2nd Prize at the Alexander & Buono International String Competition in 2010.
