Piano Lessons at CIM

The Preparatory Piano Department at the Cleveland Institute of Music provides students of all ages and abilities a structured and educational setting in which to develop and cultivate their artistic and musical skills.

Central to this program is a curricular approach which sequences the beginning, intermediate and advanced repertoire into carefully graded levels designed to nurture the technical skills needed for artistic expression at the piano. Preparatory piano students participate in an annual exam during which each student is individually evaluated by a faculty committee who provide written comment sheets, a grade and a certificate to acknowledge the achievements of each student.

The preparatory piano department is pleased to provide frequent performance opportunities to students of all ages through regularly scheduled student recitals which take place at the CIM main building as well as at the Shaker East branch location. In recent years, our students have benefited from the instruction provided by various nationally acclaimed guest artists who have visited CIM and conducted public master classes specifically for students in the preparatory piano program. In July 2008, CIM hosted the first edition of Summer Sonata, an intensive two-week program for pianists aged 9-18.
