Junior Young Artist Program
Jump To: Application | Partner Schools | Young Artist Program
The Junior Young Artist Program at Cleveland Institute of Music is an offering for the serious young musician (grades 7-10). This program provides instruction in the fundamental components of a thorough music education for students who have demonstrated strong abilities at an early age and who exhibit focus and purpose.
The Cleveland Institute of Music provides an environment of artistic excellence that promotes the development of musical talents and skills at the highest level. In addition to the Junior Young Artist Program courses, the numerous CIM Master Classes, Concerts and Recitals are wonderful opportunities for students to increase their knowledge of music and to experience performances of superior standard. Teachers for students in the Junior Young Artist Program are chosen from the distinguished faculty of the CIM Conservatory.
Admission
Admission to the Junior Young Artist Program is based on performance audition, heard by the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music. Acceptance is based on artistic accomplishment as well as the number of openings in various departments.
Courses offered in addition to private lessons in the principal performance area include Harmony-Ear Training, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and Seminar & Performance Class. With approval of the principal performance teacher, students are eligible to participate in Chamber Music. Students playing an orchestral instrument have an opportunity to participate (by audition) in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra.
Location: CIM Main campus in University Circle
Time: Weekdays/mid-afternoon-early evening
Arrangements and application for academic studies is the responsibility of the student and student's family. Even though a student may be accepted into the Junior Young Artist Program, acceptance into an academic program is required. The Junior Young Artist Program has partnered with both public and private schools for the academic requirement. A list of recommended academic schools is provided below.
