Welcome to the website of the Cleveland Institute of Music. This website seems to have captured the sense of joy in music that radiates from our school and I hope that, as you enter, you will use your imagination to get a true feeling for what makes our school such a special place to master the art of musical expression.

Cleveland is a relatively small city with a history of big culture and how wonderful that is. And, similarly, we are a relatively small independent conservatory with a world-class faculty in all departments. Indeed, a school's faculty is its true educational resource. We are proud of our close relations with The Cleveland Orchestra - more than half of the members of The Cleveland Orchestra (including ALL of the principals) are connected to CIM as faculty members, alumni, or both.

Located in University Circle, rated one of the most attractive and culturally rich square miles in the world by Forbes magazine, we have at arm's distance the campus of Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the renowned Cleveland Clinic, Severance Hall, home of The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland's Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

CIM takes pride in providing an environment for our students that feels intimate, yet accommodates their needs nicely. Students tend to leave CIM with an increased sense of identity, both personal and musical and with a sense of having had a rich and well-rounded personal, musical and educational experience.

CIM offers free concerts throughout the year and utilizes an extensive outreach program of concerts and classes in the greater Cleveland area. We thereby maintain a relevant musical presence, helping build new audiences for great music and affording our students performance opportunities that inform them of the joy and responsibility of bringing music to a local community.

As you navigate the website, notice the light that permeates our school, as there are windows everywhere. Look closely at the faces of our faculty, staff and students, all caught up in the process of learning, all brought together by a love and appreciation of the magical power of great music and its human benefits.

I hope you will have gained insight from your time here into both the care that CIM bestows on each of its students and the seriousness with which we approach the responsibility of guiding the formative years of extremely talented young people towards a rich and happy existence.
