Location

ENCORE is located midway between Cleveland and Akron with easy access from Interstate Route 90 and 80 (Ohio Turnpike) (Exit 12 from the West, Exit 13 from the East). From Cleveland, south on Interstate 271, to Interstate 480 east to Rte. 91, continue south. There is limousine service from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (phone 216/267-8282). Nearby motel and hotel accommodations are available for visitors and there is a shopping mall close by with shops and country boutiques within walking distance.

The Facility

The beautiful campus of Western Reserve Academy, a preparatory school in Hudson, Ohio, is reminiscent of a charming New England village and serves as the ideal setting for ENCORE. Hudson is an historic town located eight miles northeast of Blossom Music Center, summer home of The Cleveland Orchestra. The community is highly cultured, and the facilities at Western Reserve are both elegant and immaculately cared for, fulfilling the program's every need.

ENCORE has the exclusive use of this magnificent facility that includes a gymnasium with an Olympic-size swimming pool, diving tank and Nautilus room. A game room is located on the lower level of Ellsworth Hall. There are 20 acres of lawn and 400 acres of farm and woodland hiking and exploration, as well as playing fields and 11 outdoor tennis courts. The Chapel, built in 1836, serves as the main concert and recital hall, although numerous performances are given in a variety of locations on campus. Hayden Hall, built in 1870, provides ENCORE with a number of studios where lessons, coaching sessions and master classes take place. Additionally, Hayden Hall acts as a home base for the collaborative piano department and houses the administrative office. Another beautiful facility, the Knight Fine Arts Center, is used for teaching, rehearsing and individual practice and contains a recital hall.

Collaborative Piano

An extraordinary group of professional pianists is on staff at ENCORE to collaborate with students and their teachers in the educational and artistic process. The aim of collaborative piano at ENCORE is to enhance, rather than simply "accompany," rehearsals, lessons and performances. This is an invaluable resource which is provided to each ENCORE participant and is included as part of the ENCORE tuition.
