Things Happening At CIM

ORGAN MASTER CLASS with Tom Trenney. Saturday, 2/20/10, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, 3630 Fairmount Blvd. [Cleveland Heights/Shaker Heights] - Free and open to the public.

CIM OPERA THEATER presents Ariadne auf Naxos. CIM Student tickets are free, but you must submit your ticket request form (they were in your mailbox) to the box office.

Ariadne auf Naxos illustrates Richard Strauss in his most concise and impish mood. In this delightful romantic comedy, a rich man includes both a "serious opera" company and a commedia dell'arte troupe as entertainment for his party. However, it's getting late (the evening fireworks must be on time), so the two companies are required to present their contrasting pieces together! Surprisingly, the result is a great success, with romance triumphing to some of Strauss's most delectable music.

FESTIVAL AUDITIONS this week: National Repertory Orchestra - Friday, February 18.

Jamey Haddad and President Smirnoff perform at Cleveland Orchestra's Fridays@7 - Musical Obsession - student tickets $10 if purchased before 6pm on Friday.

Experience pure orchestral force when Franz Welser-Möst leads The Cleveland Orchestra in music from some of Richard Wagner's most famous operatic masterpieces, including the romantic preludes of Lohengrin, love-drenched selections from Tristan and Isolde, and the strong and stirring Rienzi Overture. After the concert, there's more! National Public Radio called Simon Shaheen's middle-eastern oud playing "a staggering tour-de-force of technique and passion." He'll be joined in an east-meets-west jam session by percussionist Jamey Haddad and violinist Joel Smirnoff along with a back-up band of mixed instruments. Irresistible rhythm + exotic music = FUN.
