  • CIM@CMA: Music in the Galleries

    Presented in collaboration with the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Case Western Reserve University Music Department. Students from CIM and the CWRU early music program present a wide range of repertoire on this series of early evening performances.

Annie Fullard, violinist, is a founding member of the Cavani Quartet (1984) which has garnered top prizes at the Fischoff, Coleman and Carmel Chamber Music Competitions, received The Cleveland Quartet Award at the Eastman School, the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award, was named Musical America Magazine’s Young Artists of the Year and was awarded The Guarneri String Quartet Award for Artistic Excellence from Chamber Music America in both 2005 and 2011.

Fullard has toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad, including a special Mozart Anniversary Tour of Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. Other appearances include Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Corcoran Gallery and Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Ambassador Series in Los Angeles, Honolulu Chamber Music Society, Festival L'Epau in France and the Ijsbreker Series in Amsterdam. Summer festival appearances include the Aspen Music Festival, Norfolk Festival School Kneisel Hall, Interlochen Arts Camp and the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop.

Fullard has had the honor of collaborating with distinguished artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Robert Mann, Alisa Weilerstein, Anton Nel, Stephanie Blythe, Jamie Laredo, Sharon Robinson, as well as members of the Cleveland, Tokyo, Concord, Juilliard, Miami, Takacs, Ying, Emerson, Borodin, Amadeus and St. Lawrence String Quartets. She has been a featured artist on NPR’s Performance Today and Says You! Fullard has performed as a soloist in Severance Hall with the World Doctors Orchestra, and with major orchestras around the country including San Antonio, Columbus, Dayton and Springfield Symphonies.

Deeply committed to communicating the joy of music making and connecting to audiences of all ages, Fullard has given performances, master classes and lecture demonstrations at music festivals universities, public and private schools in communities in all fifty states. As a member of the faculty and Quartet-in-Residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 1988, Fullard also serves as Artistic Advisor for Community Engagement at CIM and Director of Chamber Music at Case Western Reserve University and the Young Artist Program at CIM. In collaboration with her colleagues she has developed the Apprentice Quartet Program, Intensive Quartet Seminar, New Quartet Project and M.A.P. (Music, Art & Poetry) PROJECT. A strong advocate for multicultural and cross discipline collaborations, she has performed with poet Mwatabu Okantah and Groundworks Dance Company.  Former students who have worked closely with Fullard and her Cavani Quartet colleagues include members of the Fry Street, Jupiter, Daedalus, Catalyst, Miro, Afiara, Vega, Maia, Biava, Omer, Harlem and Linden String Quartets, as well as members of the New York Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra and The Chicago Symphony.

Fullard is former artist-in-residence at the University of California, Riverside and the University of Texas, Austin as well as visiting-artist at the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Fullard pursued additional studies at Indiana University and Yale University. Her teachers and mentors include Donald Weilerstein, Josef Gingold, Franco Gulli, Earl Carlyss and Peter Salaff.
