    Bad Music and Bad Musicians
    Dr. Timothy Cutler
The greatness of renowned composers and performers is easily taken for granted unless we spend some time at the other end of the talent spectrum.

Theory, received a Bachelor of Music degree in composition and music theory from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a Ph.D. in music theory from Yale University. His principal teachers have included Evelyn and T. L. Read (violin), T. L. Read and Param Vir (composition) and William Rothstein, Allen Forte, and Carl Schachter (music theory). He has presented numerous papers at national and regional conferences and has published articles in The Journal of Music Theory, The Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, and The Journal of Schenkerian Studies, among others. He is the creator of the Internet Music Theory Database, the first large- scale anthology of music theory examples maintained on the Internet. Dr. Cutler's current research focuses on issues of Schenkerian analysis, music theory and ear-training pedagogy, nineteenth-century virtuosity and performance style in the recorded era. He is a member of the Society for Music Theory, College Music Society, and served on the grading committee for the Educational Testing Service AP music theory examination. He also has compositions recorded on ERM Media's “Masterworks of the New Era” series. Dr. Cutler was appointed to the CIM faculty in 2007.
