Piano Faculty, Conservatory
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Gilliam Artist-in-Residence
Acclaimed for the immediacy, sensitivity and depth of his interpretations, Sergei Babayan's performances explore a stylistically diverse repertoire. He was the first pianist from the former USSR who was able to compete without government sponsorship after the collapse of the system. He believes that a recital should reveal a spiritual dimension, and as a result, his playing sustains an intensity that never fails to captivate.
- Moscow Conservatory with Vera Gornostayeva, Lev Naumov and Mikhail Pletnev
- Babayan also studied with Georgy Saradjev
