Introduction

Timothy Cutler is head of the music theory department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He is the creator of the Internet Music Theory Database, the first large-scale anthology of music theory examples maintained on the internet.

Dr. Cutler is the author of Anthology of Music for Analysis (W. W. Norton) and Bending the Rules of Music Theory (Routledge Press) and has published numerous articles in various journals. Also a composer, he has compositions recorded on ERM Media's “Masterworks of the New Era” series.
