What is the Academy?

The Academy is a comprehensive music program, designed for elementary, middle and high school students to excite them about classical music in a creative, collaborative and sequential learning environment. With support and mentorship from exceptional teachers, coaches, and conductors, students will discover their unique talents and regularly experience the thrill of live music making.

In addition to private instrumental, voice or composition lessons with their principal teacher, students will participate in ensembles, recitals, juries, studio/group classes and masterclasses. Students will attend classes that help them be a better musician, and in their high school years they will receive college advising and audition preparation. As students progress through the levels of the Academy, they will need to spend more time on campus and practicing. Beginning students, those up to and including 5th grade, can participate in our Youth Program, a precursor to the Academy which includes a Suzuki track for applicable instruments.

Is the Academy right for my child?

Students who love studying music and are eager to work hard at their instrument can thrive in the Academy. For some students, the Academy will require an increased commitment of time at CIM and practice time at home, but it will also help your child activate their potential for creativity and excellence at a whole new level.

Students who will thrive in the Academy:

  • Want to major in music in college and plan to audition for a music school or conservatory in the future
  • Have a deep love and interest in their own musicianship and the desire to grow to become the absolute best musician they can be regardless of what college path they may choose.
  • Possess a desire to be part of a musical community where they can surround themselves with friends who also love music
  • Are goal oriented and enjoy the opportunity and challenge of working to learn a new skill, gain new perspective, or accomplish something they always knew they had inside themselves!
What is the time commitment?

Students at all levels of the Academy should plan to spend 4-5 hours on Saturday at CIM (depending on coursework and ensemble rehearsal schedule). Private lessons and chamber group rehearsals may take place on other days based on mutual agreement between faculty and student.

How much does it cost?

Tuition will be $3,750/semester for the Foundations level and $4,500/semester for the Intermediate and Advanced levels. This will include one weekly 60-minute lesson and all classes, ensembles and performance opportunities. Learn more about tuition and financial aid options.
