CIM’s Percussion Ensemble is designed for students in grades 8-12. Under the direction of Luke Rinderknecht, students collaborate to explore nearly a century of percussion ensemble repertoire and learn different styles and techniques.

Program at a Glance

  • The program is designed for intermediate and advanced high school and middle school percussionists
  • Students develop chamber music and small ensemble skills, including collaborative interpretation
  • Students explore music written exclusively for percussion instruments—played by three or more musicians—by composers active in the current day and recent past
  • Coachings are offered at CIM’s University Circle campus
  • Auditions are required

Application & Audition

Placement auditions are required for this program. To ensure the health and safety of our community, auditions will not be held in person. Rather, 2020 Percussion Ensemble applicants should submit a recorded audition video through the online application. Applications will be accepted after July 1 on a case by case basis, as space allows.

Audition videos must include a snare drum solo and mallet instrument solo (marimba or xylophone preferred) of the applicant's choice. Students may also submit an optional third solo on an additional instrument of their choosing (e.g. drum set, quads or timpani). Videos taken using a smartphone or other mobile device will be sufficient.

If you have questions about audition repertoire, please contact Luke Rinderknecht at luke.rinderknecht@cim.edu. For more information about the application and audition process or to inquire about the program, reach out to the Preparatory team at preparatory@cim.edu.
