It is with great pleasure that the CIM Preparatory Division announces the appointment of Keith Holliday as conductor of the Preparatory Orchestra starting in August, 2017. We look forward to Mr. Holliday bringing his vast experience and expertise to our orchestra program.
The repertoire of Preparatory Orchestra presents exciting technical and musical challenges for the advancing string player. Students should be comfortable sight reading and performing music in major and minor keys up to four sharps or flats and should be adept with beat subdivisions and combinations. At the end of each semester, the orchestra performs with other Preparatory division orchestras.
Students will learn to:
- Further develop essential orchestral skills
- Incorporate a wide variety of bowing and rhythmic patterns
- Explore a full palette of musical expression
At this time, we will not be holding fall auditions. If you have questions, contact Mary Ann Grof-Neiman at 216.791.5000 ext. 371.
If you are a current member of the Preparatory orchestra, please note that seating auditions will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Please report to Room 217 for check-in, warm-up and tune-up. The first full rehearsal will be Saturday, September 1, 2018.
All rehearsals take place at CIM main campus—11021 East Blvd., Cleveland, 44106—on Kulas stage from 11:15am-12:30pm.
Music for the seating audition has been emailed. Please contact the Preparatory office for additional copies. Full schedules for the year will be available at the seating auditions and the first rehearsal.
Latecomers are a disruption to the rehearsal. If a student arrives to a rehearsal after it has begun, they will be tuned outside of the rehearsal area and seated in the back of the section.
Excessive tardiness and/or absences may result in a permanent change of seating.
