December 12 Orchestra Concert

Green rooms

In order to keep the hall and traffic paths clear, we will be keeping the performance hall clear of instrument cases, coats and other items. We will be providing a green room for students to leave their belongings. The room will be 217. Students should leave coats and cases in this room before going to their dress rehearsal in Kulas. This room will be available from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm to safely secure cases and coats. Audience members will be allowed in the hall 30 minutes prior to the start of the concert, but not during the dress rehearsals.

Dress Rehearsal and Concert Start time

Dress rehearsals on Dec 12 will be as follows:

  • 8:30-9:10 am Beginning Orchestra Dress Rehearsal
  • 9:25-10:05 am Preparatory Orchestra Dress Rehearsal
  • 10:20-11:00 am Youth String Camerata Dress Rehearsal
  • 11:30 am Concert

Dress for the concerts is white shirt/blouse, dark skirt or dress slacks, black shoes and socks.

The concert should conclude around 1:00 pm.

Video and Audio-Recording

CIM strictly prohibits the use of cameras and recording devices in our concert halls. Instead, there will be a professional recording available for purchase. Order forms for professional recordings will be available the day of the concert.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the Prep office at 216-791-5000.

Musicians flourish when they play together and gain from the experience of others. Participation in an ensemble not only strengthens the individual's playing ability, but students improve their performance level in their school music programs.

This orchestra, conducted by Brian Thornton, is open to young string players who seek a fun and educational ensemble experience.

Little or no ensemble experience is needed to participate in the Beginning Orchestra. Students in Beginning Orchestra develop skills such as counting independently, executing orchestral bowings, watching the conductor and blending with the other musicians in the group.

Beginning Orchestra typically performs music that is Grade 1 - 2.5. Students should be comfortable performing and sight-reading in the keys of A, D, G, C and F, as well as A, E, and D Minor, and should be able to read basic rhythms in simple and compound time signatures.

Orchestra Director

We are pleased to announce that Brian Thornton will be the new conductor of the Beginning Orchestra and Preparatory Orchestra for the 2015-2016 school year. Mr. Thornton shared his expertise and knowledge with our orchestra students last year as a substitute and we are thrilled he will be working with our students again.

The orchestras will begin again with placement auditions on Saturday, August 29 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The first full rehearsal for each group will commence on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Please see schedules below.

Beginning Orchestra Seating Auditions

Current members of the Beginning Orchestra are reminded that seating auditions will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please report to Room 217 for check-in, warm-up, and tune-up. The first full rehearsal will be Saturday, September 5, 2015.

Absence & Tardiness Policies

Students enrolled in Beginning Orchestra are expected to participate in their school music programs. The orchestra performs at the end of each semester with the Preparatory division orchestras.

Absence Policies >

Tardiness: Latecomers are a disruption to the rehearsal. If a student arrives to a rehearsal after it has begun, they will be tuned outside of the rehearsal area and seated in the back of the section for the duration of the rehearsal.

Excessive tardiness and/or absences may result in a permanent change of seating.
