The popular series of monthly concerts in the galleries featuring young artists from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the joint program with Case Western Reserve University’s early and baroque music programs enters its fifth season. Outstanding conservatory musicians present mixed programs of chamber music amid the museum’s collections for a unique and intimate experience—concerts regularly feature instruments from the museum’s keyboard collection.

From standard repertoire to unknown gems, these early-evening, hour-long performances are a delightful after-work encounter or the start of a night out. Programs announced the week of the performance.

June 12-18, 2016

Directed by Dr. Sean Schulze and drawing on the distinguished faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music, this program for aspiring young pianists features multiple performance opportunities as well as group classes in theory, Eurhythmics, form and composition, improvisation, piano literature and more. Central to this experience will be daily masterclasses, regular private lessons, in both solo and duet format, as well as supervised practice sessions.

The 2016 program will feature special guest artist Kathryn Brown who will teach a public masterclass and teach private lessons to selected students.

Applicants will audition through a Youtube link. Two contrasting works from different style periods should be included on the audition Youtube link. Summer Sonata will provide piano students wishing to immerse themselves in an intensive program with an ideal environment in which to grow and develop their artistry all within the vibrancy of Cleveland's University Circle.

Educational programming will take place between 9 am and 6 pm each day. Special evening events will be scheduled for out-of-town students who remain on site during the program. All accepted participants will perform in a public masterclass and will perform in the closing recital scheduled on June 18th in Mixon Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
