Prospective Suzuki Student Orientation
For those parents interested in learning more about what the CIM Sato Suzuki Center can offer, you are invited to join us for an Informational Orientation Session this Summer.
We will provide demonstrations from current suzuki students and answer any questions you may have regarding lessons and observations; additionally, this is your chance to learn how Suzuki philosophy differs from traditional study.
The upcoming session dates are:
Thursday, August 20, 6:30-7:30pm, Main Campus, Room 113
We ask that the parent who will be attending the weekly lesson with the student be present at the orientation. Please also note: this session is for parents only.
Attendance at orientation does NOT guarantee placement. At present, we have available openings for our lower voiced instruments; therefore, focus will be placed on cello, viola and double bass.

The Suzuki Method
At the heart of Suzuki Studies at CIM is the strong conviction that "every child has unlimited potential."
This method, developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in the 1940s, was inspired by the observation of the way language is learned in early childhood through the communication skill shared between parent and child. Suzuki based his approach on the belief that "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited." Dr. Suzuki's goal was not simply to develop professional musicians, but to nurture loving human beings and to help develop each child's character through the study of music.
Because this program begins at such an early age, the role of the parent as "home teacher" is integral to the child's progress. Suzuki seeks to develop the whole child, to expand his/her ability to learn, appreciate, and discover the joy of music. Once the fundamental playing skills have been established, creative music theory is added to teach the basics in reading music.
