Classes and Lessons

  • All individual lessons are expected to continue using distance technology, as will pre-college curriculum, eurhythmics and music theory.

  • Faculty members may conduct virtual lessons from CIM studios, certain branch locations, or their homes but no in-person instruction is allowed, for the safety of the entire CIM community and their families.

  • You should hear from your teacher by Tuesday, March 17 at 5pm, if you haven’t already, with information about scheduling lessons and accessing classes. If you have not heard from your teacher by then, please email preparatory@cim.edu for assistance.

  • Individual lessons may happen using any mutually acceptable videoconferencing solution (Facetime, Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

  • Please consult with your teacher about setting up a successful distance learning experience. We recommend that lessons take place in a distraction free environment with all necessary materials at hand (instrument, music, notepad, pencil, metronome, tuner, etc.). We also recommend younger students have a parent present during their lesson to ensure technology is working properly.

  • If you do not currently have a reliable internet connection at home, most cable internet and cell phone carriers have made adjustments to their plans. You may be able to take advantage of low-cost in-home service or unlimited cell phone data at no additional cost, depending on the provider. Suzuki Program

  • Individual lessons should occur using distance technology as described above.

  • Theory and group assignments will be sent weekly, for students to complete and return. As of March 12, it is anticipated that assignments will be emailed on Friday evenings, to allow families to keep some elements of the Saturday routine intact.

  • Sato Center Director Kimberly Meier-Sims will provide regular updates, and any program-related questions should be directed to her by email (kimberly.meier-sims@cim.edu).

Ensembles

This pertains to CYWS, Orchestras, Choirs, Chamber Music and Percussion Ensemble.

  • These programs, and all of their scheduled performances, are canceled for the semester.

  • Update March 12: Chamber groups may not conduct in-person rehearsals.

  • As of March 18, the CYWS tour to Ireland in June has been postponed. Participants were notified by email from Dan Crain.

Finances

  • We share your concerns, and CIM’s small staff is working as quickly as possible to address them. Due to the volume of questions on this topic, please expect that answers to common questions will be first communicated via email to all families before we answer individual messages. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.
