Introduction

A founding member of the Cleveland Cello Society in 1997, she currently serves as its Director of Programs.  In addition to teaching at CIM, she serves on the cello faculty at The Music Settlement.  A busy freelance cellist, she is a member of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and has served as Assistant Principal Cello of the Ohio Chamber Orchestra(1982-2000), Cleveland Opera Orchestra from 1982-2009, Red {an orchestra} (2001-2008), and founding member of  the Almeda Trio (2008-2016). The cello and music theory instructor from 1980 to 1982 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Ms. Mercer holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois, a Master of Music from the Yale University School of Music, and her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music/Case Western Reserve University.  An avid gardener, reader, and seamstress, Ida lives in Shaker Heights with her husband, Glenn, where their four “20-something” children frequently visit them.
