Cleveland Institute of Music piano faculty Sandra Shapiro has accepted a temporary sabbatical coverage position in the Interlochen Arts Academy Keyboard Studies Division.

Shapiro will continue her teaching duties at the Cleveland Institute of Music during her tenure at Interlochen Arts Academy.

“CIM has a long history of collaboration and cooperation with Interlochen, and we’re all thrilled that Sandra Shapiro was chosen for this position,” said Dr. Judy Bundra, CIM’s Chief Academic Officer and Dean of the Conservatory. “Sandra is an excellent pianist and pedagogue who will inspire Interlochen students to work toward their goals and dreams.”

An experienced teacher, Shapiro also maintains an active career as a performer, adjudicator and recording artist throughout the United States and Europe. Shapiro has appeared as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Stuttgart Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra, among others, and as a duo with both Czech violinist Ivan Ženatý and pianist Thomas Hecht. A champion of chamber music, Shapiro has collaborated with Truls Mork, Peter Rejto, Stanley Drucker, Mats Lidstrom, Franklin Cohen, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson and members of the New York Philharmonic on the New York Philharmonic’s Chamber Music Series. Shapiro’s students have garnered awards and top prizes in numerous competitions, as well as securing positions in highly-regarded schools and universities.

Shapiro studied in The Juilliard School’s Pre-College and Conservatory Divisions, received her bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Southern California and holds an Artist Diploma from The Peabody Institute of Music. Her principal teachers include Leon Fleisher, John Perry, Nadia Reisenberg, Gina Bachauer and Guido Agosti.

Lymenstull will use his sabbatical to study, practice and record the Preludes and Fugues by Lin Hua, based on The Personalities of Poetry by the Tang Chinese poet Sikong Tu.
