CIM Launches #GivingTuesday Campaign, Supports Musicians at Cleveland School of the Arts

CLEVELAND, OHIO – November 13, 2012 – The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) is putting the GIVING back into the “giving season” by using #GIVINGTUESDAY (givingtuesday.org) to launch an 8-week campaign to support the next generation of classical musicians training at the Cleveland School of the Arts (CSA), part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

The #GivingTuesday campaign has a mission to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

CIM staff, faculty and students regularly work with students and faculty at CSA, and see firsthand the value of the school, as well as the challenge CSA faces with funding and supplies. That’s why CIM is coordinating an effort to provide much-needed musical instruments, accessories, books, lessons and more to CSA and its students.

“On Thursday, November 22, we eat and give thanks. On Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we rush to get doorbusting deals. I’m excited to see a new movement – one of GIVING - and I’m pleased CIM can be part of it by helping our friends and neighbors at CSA,” said Char Rapoport Nance, Development Officer - Alumni & Parent Relations.

Beginning on Giving Tuesday, November 27, the public is asked to help CIM by donating an item from CSA’s Wish List (provided online at cim.edu/givingtuesday) or make a financial contribution towards the purchase of needed items. Donors can fill out the form and drop off donations in Pogue Lobby at CIM (11021 East Boulevard).

The campaign culminates at the 22nd Annual Black Heritage Concert in Kulas Hall on Sunday, January 27, when CIM will present CSA with all of the collected contributions.
