Students earn top prizes at annual composer contest

CIM senior Shawn Head and freshman Joseph Tolonen won second and third place, respectively, at the Cleveland Composers Guild Third Annual Collegiate Composition Contest held last month. In addition to cash prizes, the CIM composition students, who both study with department head Keith Fitch, will be honored at the Cleveland Composers Guild concert on Sunday.

Head won second place with his piece The Wind Sweeps UP Foliage Underneath the Moonlight for flute, viola and guitar and Tolonen earned a third place win with his piece, In the Gloaming for solo piano. Composers may only submit one work for consideration.

The competition is open to all full time undergraduates studying in northeast Ohio and prizes are given to first, second and third place winners only.

Congratulations to our composition students!
