Exploratory work begins to strengthen the Piano Department of the Dominican National Conservatory of Music in collaboration with the Cleveland Institute of Music
The initiative is led by the Dominican Ministry of Culture, the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic and Fundación Sinfonía, in partnership with the Cleveland Institute of Music, with the participation of pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi through the Fulbright Specialist Program.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. — Fundación Sinfonía hosted a welcome meeting marking the opening of preliminary and exploratory working sessions aimed at strengthening the Piano Department at the Dominican National Conservatory of Music. The sessions are led by Italian pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Fulbright Specialist and Distinguished Professor and Head of Keyboard Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Maestro Pompa-Baldi’s visit to Santo Domingo takes place through the Fulbright Specialist Program of the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic, with Fundación Sinfonía serving as host organization. The initiative is also supported by the Vice Ministry of Creativity and Artistic Training of the Ministry of Culture, led by Amaury Sánchez, and by the Dominican National Conservatory of Music.
The meeting brought together Irene González, Established Opinion Leaders Specialist at the U.S. Embassy, along with Michael Cruz, Public Diplomacy Officer; Margarita Miranda de Mitrov, President of Fundación Sinfonía; Marisol Rodríguez Copello, Co-President of Fundación Sinfonía; Amaury Sánchez, Vice Minister of Creativity and Artistic Training at the Ministry of Culture; Marinella Sallent, General Director of Fine Arts; and Paola González, Director of the Dominican National Conservatory of Music.
Also participating were Jacqueline Huguet, Head of the Piano Department, and Jasmina Gavrilovic, Academic Coordinator of the Dominican Conservatory, who will work closely with Maestro Pompa-Baldi throughout this initial phase of academic exchange.
Over the coming days, the collaboration will include a series of working meetings aimed at identifying opportunities to strengthen piano education and academic development in the Dominican Republic. The current sessions focus on the Piano Department, with a second visit scheduled for May to expand collaboration with additional Cleveland Institute of Music scholars.
These visits are part of the activities of Freedom 250, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States.
