Snare drums are one of the most recognizable voices in the drumkit and can be found used in marching bands, drumlines, parades, concert bands, in rock bands, orchestras and much more. Watch as contenders ages 26 and younger compete in this annual snare drum competition.
Starting the second weekend of June, the 17th Annual Cleveland International Classical Guitar Festival kicks off with a series of recitals celebrating classical guitar and art music. The six festival concert series include performances by Jason Vieaux, Nigel North, Petra Poláčkováv, David Russell, Hao Yang, and Colin Davin. Directed by CIM’s Composition Department Head, Keith Fitch, the Young Composers Program features private composition lessons, listening sessions, and chamber music coachings. Additionally, student composers benefit not only from hearing their music premiered by professional musicians, but also from working with them, and the faculty, in rehearsal. ChamberFest Cleveland is the region’s only such festival, creating thematic programming for unique chamber music experiences in a variety of venues around town, including Mixon Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music which kicks off this year's first performance with Cycles: Phases.
Directed by CIM faculty member, Dr. Sean Schulze, Summer Sonata offers multiple performance opportunities, individual lessons as well as group classes in theory, Eurhythmics, form and composition, improvisation and piano literature. Designed to cultivate and nurture the aspirations of serious young musicians, students study with CIM’s renowned faculty and 2017 guest artists, Peter Takács and Cicilia Yudha.
