CIM Announces April Events
Cleveland Orchestra members in recital,
CIM@Severance, Opera and Chamber Music!
CLEVELAND, OHIO – 03-27-12 – The Cleveland Institute of Music Concert Series enters its final two months with an array of springtime events. Cleveland Orchestra members perform in faculty recitals, the CIM Orchestra concludes its season, the Opera Theater completes a fairy tale run and students perform in chamber recitals.

The Cleveland Institute of Music presents hundreds of events each year, most free of charge. Programs are performed at 11021 East Boulevard, Cleveland, unless otherwise noted.
CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA MEMBERS PERFORM IN FREE RECITAL: APRIL 4
With more than 40 members of The Cleveland Orchestra on CIM’s faculty, there are plenty of opportunities to see renowned performers in intimate recitals, all presented at no charge. On April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Kulas Hall, Concertmaster William Preucil is joined by fellow Orchestra violinists Stephen Rose and Alexandra Preucil Dolan, violist Robert Vernon and principal cellist Mark Kosower in a program of Tchaikovsky and Dohnányi. With the exception of guest artist Ms. Dolan, all are members of CIM’s faculty. CIM faculty pianist Pi-Ju Chang and student cellist Matthew Allen will also perform.
This free event is presented in honor of The Lubrizol Foundation and will be broadcast on Audio-Technica on WCLV 104.9 FM on Wednesday, April 11 at 8 p.m.

CIM ORCHESTRA CONCLUDES SEASON: April 11, April 18
The CIM Orchestra concludes its season with two final events.
On April 11, James Feddeck, the assistant conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, leads the CIM Orchestra in a program of Bloch and Brahms with solo cellist Alexander Cox. This event is in Kulas Hall at 7:30 p.m. and is presented in honor of Westlake Reed Leskosky Architects.
The CIM@Severance Series ends on Wednesday April 18 at 8:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Community. The event pays homage to a special, long-standing relationship that CIM has had with the Cleveland School of the Arts (CSA), where CIM students and faculty teach, coach and mentor young performers. CSA’s Dett Concert Choir, led by William B. Woods, along with voices from Antioch Baptist Church choirs and the Singers’ Club of Cleveland, with the CIM Orchestra and special guest conductor President Joel Smirnoff, will perform Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 in C minor, “Resurrection,” beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Severance Hall.
Like all performances in this series, this event is presented at no charge, but tickets are required and very few remain. Call the Severance Hall Box Office at 216.231.1111. With support from Audio-Technica, this performance will be broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. on WCLV 104.9 FM in Cleveland and streaming on WCLV.com.

OPERA THEATRE PRESENTS SENSATIONAL SCENES: APRIL 20-22
After presenting two tremendously successful fully-staged opera productions, CIM wraps its fairy tale season with a sensational selection of fully-costumed scenes from beloved operas, directed by David Bamberger, with accompaniment by John Simmons April 20 through 22.
This year includes scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Puccini’s La Rondine, Bizet’s Carmen and Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. All works are presented in their original language, with projected English text.
This springtime favorite features a special 3:00 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday, April 22 – a wonderful way to introduce children to the opera.
Chamber Music Events in Spring: April 25-May 2
Faculty and student ensembles focus on chamber music during semester’s end events April 25 through May 2. The Cavani String Quartet presents the third Breaking Boundaries series event with special guests, members of the Tokyo String Quartet, Kazuhide Isomura (viola) and Clive Greensmith (cello) on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Kulas Hall. The next evening, at 6:00 p.m., students in the Intensive String Quartet Seminar perform quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
Monday, April 30, Paul Yancich directs the student Percussion Ensemble in Kulas Hall at 7:30 p.m., followed by Brass Ensembles, led by Richard Stout Tuesday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. The final event, Woodwind Ensembles directed by Elizabeth Camus, occurs Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Mixon Hall.
