Getting Started: A Welcome Back Checklist

Students In the Library

As we approach the start of a brand new year here at CIM, here are some important points to get you started:

Activate Your ID: Want to start borrowing from RML and other University Circle libraries? Make sure you bring your CIM ID to our Circulation Desk to create your library account. Your Fall 2016 sticker is required before you may begin borrowing Library materials for the semester. You can get this at the Business Office. In addition to checking out library items, you will need your ID to access Kelvin Smith Library at CWRU.

Borrowing Periods: RML makes borrowing easy by allowing our students to check out items for a whole semester! Check an item out anytime during the semester and they will all be due back on the same date after classes are wrapped up. Just keep an eye on your email in case an item gets recalled!

CWRU-CIM Joint Music Program: One of the many benefits of our partnership with CWRU is access to the libraries of CWRU, specifically Kulas Music Library. Kulas focuses on resources in musicology, music education, and early music among other topics. Our two music libraries coordinate hours, collections, and online resources to maximize the value to our students. Additionally, CIM students have 24-hour access (with valid ID) to the collections at Kelvin Smith Library, the main library of CWRU.

Gotta Use 'Em All! (Digital Resources): RML is so much more than books and scores - try our awesome digital resources from anywhere. Stream full operas from Met On Demand, access thousands of journals through JSTOR, or do your research from home using Grove Music Online or RILM! To access these off campus, make sure you install and activate our VPN. (For setup help, see our handy librarians.)

So Much More Than Scores: Our team of librarians and staff members is here to help you with anything you need, from paper writing to research consultations. Everyone working for us is also a musician and specializes in different areas. The library hosts special events throughout the year such as our Discovery Series and our Résumé Refresh Table! Watch for announcements and dates as we post them online.

Tag, Friend, and Follow- Library Social Media: Keep up to date on the latest library events and resources by following RML on Facebook (CIM Robinson Music Library), Twitter (@CIMLibrary), and Instagram (@CIMMusicLibrary). Stay in touch!

A Welcome from Your Library Staff

Whether you are a new student or a returning student, we invite you to come and explore everything Robinson Music Library has to offer. A beautiful design combined with enhanced technology and improved lighting and furnishings work together to create an attractive and inviting library conducive to study and expanding your musical horizons. Our dedicated team of librarians and staff members are here to help you with anything you need from your research to your resume. As we like to say, ask us anything!

The mission of the Robinson Music Library is to create a nurturing environment for the study of music, supporting the educational objectives of the Cleveland Institute of Music and fostering our students' own musical growth and development. Just as CIM embraces the legacy of the past and promotes the continuing evolution of music, the Library provides a full spectrum of resources, from traditional print materials to electronic resources. The Library supports and supplements the initiatives of the faculty toward developing the full artistic potential of our students.
